The BGN/PCGN system is a joint product of the United States Board on Geographic Names (BGN) and the Permanent Committee on Geographical Names for British Official Use (PCGN). For over seventy years it has set the de facto romanization standard for English-language newsrooms, diplomats, and cartographers.
